The Minor in Actuarial Mathematics is designed to provide students with high quality education in actuarial mathematics that adds value to their skills, and also develops enhanced analytical problem-solving skills as well as logical perspective that would be useful both in work in their own area and in applying their expertise to solve real life problems related to financial sector.
Declare the minor
This minor is offered to all Qatar University’s students who meet the following requirements:
- Must satisfy the University and the College requirements for declaring a minor.
- Must have a GPA 2.0 or more
- Must have passed Math 101 or Math 119.
Minor in Actuarial Mathematics (18/24 CH)
- Students who needs 18 CH to complete their study plan must complete the minor core requirements (12 CH) and a minimum of 6 CH in the minor electives. Students who already completed one or more courses in the minor core requirements as part of their major must take additional courses from Minor Electives to complete the minor 18 CH requirement.
- Students who needs 24 CH to complete their study plan must complete the minor core requirements (12 CH) and a minimum of 12 CH in the minor electives. Students who already completed one or more courses in the minor core requirements as part of their major must take additional courses from Minor Electives to complete the minor 24 CH requirement.
Minor Requirements Courses (12 CH)
Students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours in Minor required courses:
- STAT 101: Statistics I
- Math 291: Financial Mathematics
- STAT 211: Introduction to Probability
- Math 292: Actuarial Sciences Problems Solving Lab
Minor Electives (6/12 CH)
Students must complete a minimum of 6/12 credit hours in Minor electives courses:
- MATH 102: Calculus II
- MATH 221: Business Math II
- MATH 391: Life Contingencies I
- MATH 392: Life Contingencies II
- ECON 111: Principles of Microeconomics
- ECON 112: Principles of Macroeconomics
- ACCT 110: Financial Accounting
- STAT 102: Statistics II
