The Department of English Literature and Linguistics is the home of research activity in the fields of English Literature, Linguistics, Writing, and Translation Studies. In each of these four disciplines, our research covers a range of approaches and subfields.
Our faculty’s research expertize covers a wide historical and geographic range of literature in English, from the Middle Ages to the present day, with particular strengths in modern and contemporary British, American, and Global Anglophone literatures. Our research focuses on such diverse topics as science fiction, Victorian literary and cultural history, modernism, narrative theory, and African American literature, among many others.
Our research in linguistics includes interdisciplinary work in both descriptive and applied linguistics. DELL faculty performs research in phonetics and phonology, psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, first and second language acquisition and sociolinguistics.
