What are the eligibility conditions?

The applicant must have at least a high school certificate. However, a university level degree is preferable.

What is the duration of the program?

The Arabic language programme is a one-year programme (one academic year), which consists of two academic terms (Fall Term and Spring Term).
The academic year starts in August or September depending on QU academic calendar (here) and runs up to May. Each academic term consists of 16 weeks.

What is the schedule of classes?

Classes are held five days a week (Sunday – Thursday) with a minimum of four hours per day.

Is Orientation mandatory?

ABSOLUTELY!! It's an important time to gather information about your classes, requirements, and academic policies at Qatar University. During Orientation you'll meet other students and will get to know faculty members. It is a great opportunity to ask any question you might have about the program, Qatar University, or life in Qatar.

Does the Center offer an academic degree?

NO. A certificate of completion is awarded to successful students at the end of the academic year.
The certificate of completion is not equivalent to any academic degree. Students can request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar.

Is scholarship offered to study in the Arabic Language programme?

There are two types of scholarship admission:

• Organizational nominees (organizations that have signed agreements / MoU with Qatar University annually nominate a certain number of students to the ANNS center)
• Qatar Fund for Development nominees (QFFD offers a number of scholarships for international applicants from developing countries to study at the ANNS center)

NB: Only applicants from outside Qatar can apply for scholarship.

What is included in the scholarship?

• Student visa and residence permit.
• Tuition fees and textbooks.
• Round-trip air ticket.
• Accommodation at the University dorms which includes 3 meals everyday (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), laundry, wireless Internet service, games hall, library, computer lab, Gym facilities, transportation to and from the Campus and etc.
• Financial Aid of 500 QR per month

When can I apply for a scholarship?

There is no separate application for scholarship. While completing online application you’ll have to specify whether you are applying for scholarship or as a fee- paying student.

When I arrive, how can I get to the QU dorms?

Is the student hostel separate or mixed?

Student hostel is separate: male hostel and female hostel. QU offers accommodation at QU dorms for students only. Family accommodation is not available.

Where is the student hostel?

The student hostel is on QU campus.

What is there in my room?

All hostel rooms are air-conditioned double bedrooms with similar standard furniture. Each student has a single bed, study desk, rolling chair, wardrobe, and bedside table. One quilt, pillow and a bed sheet set are also provided.

What do I need to bring with me to the hostel?

No furniture is allowed in the hostel. You may bring your personal belongings such as a laptop, an iron, hair-dryer, etc.

May I ask guests to stay in my room?

Guests may not stay with students. The only exception is for friends who are already residents at the dorm. Other friends can visit you in the dorms for the purpose of study with the approval of the dorm Senior Supervisor, and for a limited number of hours.

Is there any phone service in the dorms?

There is a telephone for local calls only in the living area.

Can I leave my belongings in my room during the breaks?

Yes, you can leave your belongings in your room during the breaks but keep them locked. For break dates and durations, check our Academic Calendar (here)

How do I connect my computer to the campus/ hostel network?

The Campus Network is operated by the University IT department. Once you join the University, you can subscribe free of charge to a high speed line. All dorms have wireless Internet, which is free of charge.

Can I work in Qatar while studying at Qatar University?

QU students are not allowed to work outside the University. However, they can get a part-time job on campus.

Is there any dress-code or dress restrictions?

There is no dress-code per say, however, students are required to dress modestly and respect local culture.

Do girls have to wear headscarves?

No. Most Qatari women wear the traditional black Abaya, and the Shayla, a black head scarf. But foreign residents and visitors dress in a wide variety of styles. Just use common sense and respect local traditions.

Is there a medical clinic on campus?

Yes, medical service is available for male and female students. Physicians provide urgent medical treatment and advice during university working hours.

Are there computer facilities available for students?

Computer labs are located in various places around campus and many are open for students. The labs include Internet access and a variety of software programs.

Is there any restaurant or cafeteria on campus?

Yes, there are several restaurants and cafeterias on campus.

Is there a shop/mini market on campus?

No.

Is there a Bank on university campus?

Yes, Qatar National Bank (QNB) has a branch located on campus. As well, several ATMs are located in various university buildings.

What about the university library?

The University Library has extensive book collections in print and digital format. It subscribes to scholarly databases in all areas taught at Qatar University and provides trainings in general research techniques and information literacy.

What about sport facilities to students?

Qatar University boasts a wide range of sport facilities available to male students: the Aquatic Center (three swimming pools), a group of a well-equipped outdoor fields (central court (Multi-activities), futsal field, handball field, basketball field, tennis field, volleyball field), stadium (a soccer field, running track, athletic sports area).
Female students can visit the Sports Hall, which is a multi-use indoor hall specified for Qatar University’s female faculty and students, which takes into consideration their personal privacy. The hall was equipped to include a multi-sport field that includes a group of sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, and handball, in addition to an area for squash and gymnasium. Table tennis and billiards tables are also available.

Are there cultural and social events?

Yes, there is a wide range of various cultural and social activities organized at QU. Some of them are organized by QU, while others are organized by students’ clubs.
