Qatar University (QU) Annual Research Forum and Exhibition is a
crucial event that brings together students, researchers and academics
from the University’s colleges, research centers and institutions, in
addition to partners and stakeholders, to assess, review and discuss
QU’s research outputs and activities.
The Forum aims to highlight QU’s approach in addressing the
community’s issues and challenges. This approach relies on research
anchored on a vibrant partnership with industry and various other
stakeholders, including institutions and research centers. Indeed, QU
aims to achieve research-driven learning, discovery and
entrepreneurship. The event also helps QU faculty, researchers and
students to take advantage of the opportunities offered by respective
partners. It will also focus on QU significant and award-winning
research that promote the University’s vision, and supports Qatar’s
research priorities of and the goals of the Qatar National Vision
2030.
This year’s high-profile event will be held under the theme:
“Building Resilience at Universities: Role of Innovation and
Entrepreneurship”.
Date: Wednesday October 20, 2021.
Venue: Qatar University, Research Complex H10, Auditorium and WebEx
(hybrid).
The event includes opening remarks from distinguished guests, QU
President and Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies, as
well as a keynote speech by a renowned academic name.
It will feature the opening of the Research Posters Exhibition, the
distribution of Awards and three Panel Discussions focusing on the
Forum’s theme. QU Press will also publish a booklet of summaries of
the Forum's proceedings.
Panel Discussion 1: Role of Universities in Transforming Society:
Challenges and Practices
The University should develop social and human sciences that
are pivotal for transforming society. In the meantime, QU should
preserve the identity, traditions, and customs of the Qatari society,
Arab culture, and Islamic values.
The panel will foster discussions on significant planning areas that
are necessary for developing strategies for societal transformation.
It will focus on the following topics:

Highlight how universities could preserve the society’s identity and
culture.

Develop the social and human sciences that are vital for
transforming society.
- Develop future strategies for societal transformation.
- Present case studies from an international level.
The panel will consist of faculty members and researchers,
distinguished representatives from government entities, and
international partners.
Panel Discussion 2: Towards the Implementation of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs)
The university should play a leading role, preparing the students to
contribute to a sustainable future for all. The panel will be a great
opportunity to shed the light on the recently launched Academic
Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD), and will focus on some key
issues such as:

Which SDGs to approach, and how to implement them by the university?

What are the transformations in research and education towards SDGs?

Which frameworks for demonstrating the impact? Benchmark with
international experiences.
- How to be a responsible university?

Which role QU colleges and centers can play in the coming years?
The panel will consist of faculty members and researchers,
distinguished representatives from government entities, in addition to
partners, and international agencies such as UNESCO, UN Economic and
Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and the Academic Council
on the United Nations System (ACUNS).
Panel Discussion 3:
Knowledge-based, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Driven Research
and Teaching
QU has built an enabling strategy leading it to excellence in
education and research, by stressing on the role of Innovation and
Entrepreneurship in facing challenges and adapting to changes and
disruptions. The panel will focus on the following topics:

What is entrepreneurial research and education and how can it be
implemented in universities?

How can research centers and innovation and technology hubs
strengthen such vision now and in the future?
- What are the needed transformations in universities?

Which role QU colleges and centers can play in the coming years?
This panel will consist of faculty members and researchers,
distinguished representatives from industry and technology hubs, and
international partners.
