Gary Schwarz is Professor in Public Management and Strategy and Director of the Public Management and Regulation Group. His research focuses on how organisations and individuals can improve their performance, innovation, and leadership. He has published widely in world-leading academic journals, such as Public Administration Review, Public Administration, World Development, and The Leadership Quarterly.
Before joining QMUL, Prof Schwarz served as the Head of the School of Finance and Management and as a Professor in Public Policy and Management at SOAS University of London, where he also was the Chair of the Division of Public Management and a Member of the University’s Executive Board. He has held academic appointments at Harvard University, London Business School, Copenhagen Business School, and the University of Nottingham’s campus in China, where he served as Faculty Director of Teaching Development and the Director of the largest executive education programme. Prof Schwarz is the recipient of multiple teaching awards and research grants. Previously, he was the Serviceline Leader Performance Management at Deloitte, where he advised numerous public and private organisations.
Prof Schwarz holds academic degrees from Harvard University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, University of St Gallen, and WHU in Germany.
