About

The Journal of Middle East Media (JMEM) is the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated exclusively to research on media in the Middle East. The annual journal, which includes both Arabic and English articles, serves as a pioneering forum for studies, critical debates and multiple perspectives about the continuously changing Middle East media. JMEM‘s main objective is to enhance and contribute to an inclusive understanding of the issues surrounding the media environment in the Middle East. JMEM welcomes primarily academic submissions, but occasionally draws on related work from the professional community.

JMEM is included in the Communication and Mass Media Complete and is filed: ISSN 2152-629X.

The JMEM editorial board recognizes the significance of research in several crucial media issues, including:

  • The role of new media in the dissemination of news, information and entertainment
  • Transnational satellite channels and their political, economic, social and cultural impact
  • Theories and techniques of communication policy formation and communication planning
  • Implications of international Arab broadcasting
  • Interconnections among communication and social processes at the global, regional and local levels
  • Women in media
  • Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and the media
