    I am Discovering Materials (Primary)

    Description
This track aims to introduce students to diverse topics in materials science through STEM activities. Students learn about different types of materials and their properties/functions, to understand their potential applications. Through hands-on sessions, students learn about the different scientific terms/concepts of various materials w.r.t. chemistry and physics via investigation and research approaches. During the design project challenge, students are enlightened to innovate, brainstorm, design, test, build, analyze, and re-build the product that implements a solution for an existing problem presented to them. Some of the mind-blowing innovations were light-trash sorter and biodegradable plant pots. Students are also encouraged to establish contributions towards the STEM fields for the development of the industrial sector and thereby, its influence on the economy. They are also enlightened to contribute towards the growth of the scientific community in Qatar. Likewise, the students are motivated to participate in various inter-school competitions as hosted by the program to exhibit their work to the community and be recognized in the global innovator's network.
    Objectives
    • Students learn about various materials and their properties.
    • They attain the skills of problem-solving, expression/presentation, critical thinking, and design thinking skills.
    • They are brainstormed to design new products of potential applications using different materials
    • Depending on the workshop, students acquire respective scientific knowledge to come up with a novel product/idea/prototype.
    Student Benefits
    • Participation certificates
    • Inter-group and inter-school competitions to enhance students’ presentation/ expression skills via oral/poster presentations, filming art in science, social media contests incorporating photography or videography.
