Dr. Ibrahim Al-Maslamani earned his master’s and PhD degree in Marine Biology from the University of North Wales in the UK. Right after graduation, he was given Platinum Medal by Qatar Supreme Education Council as the recipient of the State Excellence Award for a PhD holder. Dr. Ibrahim dedicated his academic profession in Qatar University as early as 1997 as Teaching Assistant even before obtaining his higher education. He then served as Associate Professor at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences while appointed as Operations Manager of the RV Janan at the Environmental Science Center. Presently he is designated as an Adviser to the Vice President of Qatar University for Research and Graduate Studies. His passion for research has garnered him prestigious awards and research grants with well over $5 million price funds. He participated in more than ten NPRP projects funded by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). During his tenure at the Environmental Science Center, Dr. Ibrahim leading a team of researchers invented and patented a marine clutch that won the Gold Medal at the Scientific Exhibition of Innovations in Geneva (2019), gold medal at the Middle East Innovations Exhibition in Kuwait (2020) and awarded first place in the GCC Office of Invention and Innovation Award (2020). He was also involved in the discovery of a new crab specie named “Coleusia janani” that has been identified under the taxonomy of Leucosiidae family of crabs within the Arabian Gulf. His research interests focus on marine biology and environment with emphasis on sustainability, conservation and protection which reflects in his more than 55 high-impact scientific papers published in prestigious journals. Dr. Ibrahim is pro-active in being an interface between institutions within Qatar University and abroad on collaborative research and innovations and is committed to enabling and shaping the university’s strategic plan. .
