There are two types of change of major requirements; general requirements set by the University and specific requirements set by each college individually. In order to be eligible for change of major, you are expected to satisfy both, unless otherwise stated.
General Requirements
- You may apply for change of major prior to completing any undergraduate credit hours as long as you satisfy the
secondary school certificate requirements.
- You may apply for change your major given that this change should occur prior to completing 60 undergraduate earned hours.
- If you have completed a minimum of 24 undergraduate credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above, you may apply for change of major even if you did not satisfy its secondary school admission requirements at the time of initial admission to QU.
- If you are currently enrolled in the
Foundation Program, you may apply for change of major to a program that does not require passing it as long as you meet its admission requirements.
- Students applying for change of major must adhere to the
academic track of their secondary school certificate. In order to be eligible for change of major to any Science or Technology based major, students must have completed their secondary school certificate in a Science or a Technology track respectively. Consequently, students who have completed their secondary school certificate in an Arts track will be eligible for change of major to Arts and Humanities based majors only. This policy is applicable to all students admitted to Qatar University in Fall 2021 and onwards.
- Active undergraduate students who have completed their secondary school certificate in either Arts or Technology tracks may apply for a change of major to science-track majors, provided that they meet the following requirements at the time of application.
- Change of major is extremely competitive; satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
- In all cases, the sought college must approve change of major applications, taking into consideration their transfer requirements and available capacity.
Important note: If you do not meet the requirements of your desired major, yet you plan to enroll in any available program only to work towards transferring to your desired major later on, then, please understand the risks and consequences of such action. Unofficially pursuing a study plan that is different from the program you enroll in is hardly a successful plan. You might not only miss valuable advice from academic advisors of your assigned program, or jeopardize any scholarships or sponsorships you may obtain, but also fall behind in your graduation schedule. Please plan your academic path carefully in line with policies and regulations.
