Thank you for taking the time to visit the webpages of the Environmental Science Center (ESC). Located at Qatar's national university, Qatar University, the ESC is strategically placed to conduct fundamental and applied research in the environmental sciences, including: the marine; atmospheric; and terrestrial environments. We have a thriving team of staff, excellent laboratory resources, and a class-leading marine research ship, the RV Janan. The center also provides strategic analytical services and training to government and private sector clients.
Qatar is blessed with abundant natural resources, and its unique terrestrial and marine ecosystems are intimately linked with the nations cultural heritage and diversity. Being adjacent to the Arabian Gulf, the ESC is ideally placed to conduct research on the environment of Qatar and the wider region. Our warm and arid climate serves as an ideal platform to conduct research on ecology and environmental processes in the context of broader regional and global environmental change.
Our work at the ESC is supported by the government of Qatar, as well as our private sector partners. We have strategic collaborations with partners from around the world in the form of universities and government research institutes.
