New Students
New students are placed into two levels--either Elementary or Intermediate--based on ACCUPLACER test scores.
Current Students
Current Foundation students can enroll in courses by completing the pre-requisite courses.
About ACCUPLACER ESL Test
Four sections of the ACCUPLACER ESL are used for placement into Foundation English courses:
- Section 1: ESL Language Use
- Section 2: ESL Listening
- Section 3: ESL Reading Skills
- Section 4: ESL Sentence Meaning
The sections above contain 20 questions each. The total time allowed for the test is 2 hours.
General Exemption for Foundation English courses
The general exemption from the Foundation English Program requires either of the following:
- Achieve an aggregate score of 400, with minimum component scores of 100 in Reading Comprehension and 100 in Language in Use.
- Achieve the required test scores in the standardized tests listed in the table below

- Have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours AND attended a minimum of two semesters (Fall and Spring) of undergraduate coursework at an institution of higher education where English was the medium of instruction with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00. The university must be accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent authority in that country. An official statement proving this must be submitted at the time of application in order for the exemption to be considered.
