Qatar University refers to Study Abroad Students as full-time, degree-seeking masters or doctoral level students in Good Academic Standing who are taking courses or conducting research at a partner university.
A Study Abroad student may enroll at a partner institution for a maximum of two consecutive academic semesters excluding the summer semester.
The leave time associated with the Study Abroad is counted toward the maximum duration of time permitted in the student’s Program of Study.
Any course taken outside of Qatar University is subject to the University’s Transfer of Credit Policy in consideration toward a degree. The maximum allowable transfer credit should not exceed 9 credit hours; courses taken outside of QU should be pre-approved by the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. Thesis hours taken outside of QU will NOT be transferred.
The Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies must approve the Study Abroad work or study plan; the student must show evidence of acceptance or an invitation letter from the partner institution. The student is responsible for securing the approval for academic leave prior to departure from Qatar University.
Upon the review of the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, a letter of approval will be issued regarding the Study Abroad leave request; the approval letter should stipulate the responsibilities of the student. A copy of the signed letter should be filed with the Office of Graduate Studies and the Study Abroad Student’s file will be forwarded to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
Unless stipulated otherwise, the costs associated with the Study Abroad are the responsibility of the student.
