Research Distinguishing Standerds for Graduate students

The graduate student must meet the following conditions:

1. At graduation, the student shall not have had any academic probation or misconduct on the student record.
2. The PhD student must meet the graduation requirements of Article 16 of the Graduate Studies Policy, and the Master's student must meet the graduation requirements of Article 14 and 15 of the Graduate Studies Policy.
3. The student shall have a distinguished scientific publication according to the evaluation forms announced by the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.
4. The student shall not receive a grade of less than (B) in any course on the record and not have repeated any course excluding the thesis one.

Please note the following:

1. know the ranking of the journal before submitting your manuscript for publication
2. Work closely with your college's supervisor to ensure that you select the appropriate ranking journal that satisfies the department’s standards.
3. Trans disciplines/researches might need to use multiple indicators to measure research quality across disciplines.
4. Colleges may use the same indicators to measure students’ research excellence and quality.

1. Student must meet all the General Conditions for Selecting Distinguished Graduate Students.
2. Student has met the mechanism of the graduate department.

Required attachments

• Fill out the award application. 
• Copy of your transcript.
• Copy of your publications.
• In case your paper did not published yet, include the approval for publication.
• For rewards, include any communication that approve your winning.

Student’s checklist

The following checklist can be used as general role on assessing research quality:

• Research topic/proposed research idea is novel and sounds appealing
• Importance of the topic (impact)
• Problem is described clearly with no ambiguity
• Research goals clearly identified
• Research methodology/approach to evaluate and study the problem is clear and well defined
• Research methodology/approach is realistic to the nature of study
• References/citations are used correctly.

The standard merit of each graduate department for nomination on Research Distinguishing

Qatar University recognizes that each graduate program has its own mechanisms and standards for evaluating student research and nomination. Each department of graduate programs must specify the standards and procedures that will be used to measure distinction in the culminating experience.

The number of graduate students awarded distinction, should be that no more than ten percent of graduating students in each graduate program would be selected to receive the designation of distinction. In addition, Graduate programs may elect not to nominate any candidates for this designation in a given semester.
