Prof. Fatma Mohammad Al-Sowaidi
Director of Qatar University Press
Prof. Fatma Al-Sowaidi holds a PhD from the Department of Arabic Language at Cairo University. She is an expert in pre-Islam and Umayyad Arabic literature. Her academic achievements extend over a long period. She is a reviewer and judge in various scientific publications and promoting committees in several Arab universities. In addition, she served as an external committee member of MA and PhD discussions.
Prof. Fatma Al-Sowaidi taught language, literature, and criticism courses at Qatar University, Zayed University, and the University of London. Furthermore, she served in many professional and administrative offices at Qatar University, including:
- Assistant Dean for Communication Affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences
- Assistant Dean for Languages, Media, and Translation Sector (2019-2021)
At the level of Qatari society, she worked for several institutions and cultural centers, including:
- Volunteer consultant at the UNESCO Regional Office in the GCC countries
- Member of the Memory of the World Program from 2000 to 2005
- Member of the Culture, Media and Information Committee of the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science until the end of 2022
- She is currently the editor of (Ansaq), an international academic journal
- She has been the founder and chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Creativity Center for five years
- A founding member of the Committee of Trustees of the State Appreciation and Encouragement Award • Reissue of Doha Magazine, and member of its advisory board
- Supervising the Creative Arab Youth’s Competition in 2010 (competition organized by the League of Arab States)
- Establishing the Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction
- Adviser for the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding in 2015
