This page contains your details. Some of the information on this page is pulled from other systems at QU, so cannot be edited. Other information, which shows a pencil when you move the mouse on top of it, can be edited. Examples of things that you can edit on this page:

    • Upload a personal image: Move the mouse on the image placeholder above your name until you see the pencil icon, click it and then upload a new image from your computer.

    • Edit Notification Settings: You can control the notifications you receive from Blackboard, whether via email, in the Activity Stream inside Blackboard, or via the mobile app. To learn more, watch the Blackboard Video: Notification Settings, and for further details you can check the Blackboard help page: Notification Settings.

This page displays the most recent activities from all your courses and organizations including, announcements, new content, new submissions, etc. It is similar to a social media stream. We advise you to depend on email and on accessing courses to get the most important information. For more,  see the Blackboard help page: Activity Stream.

You can also edit the Notifications Settings in this page. This can be done from the settings icon at the top right of your “Activity Stream” screen.

If your course doesn’t have a banner, Blackboard will automatically assign an image for your course in this view.

    Organizing and Finding your Courses

You can easily locate your courses through searching, selecting the term, or using specific filters.

    courses

    1. You can type part of the course name in the “Search your courses” box.
    2. All your courses will be listed under 'Current Courses', but you can use the drop-down list to select a specific term.
    3. You can also use the Filter to show “Private Courses” for example. These are the courses that are locked and students can’t access them.

For each course, you may click on the three dots (…) to do some actions:

    actions

    • Edit Course image: Select a different image for the course.
    • Make Course Private: Making the Course private makes it unavailable to students. The students can see the course, but will not be able to access it. A lock icon indicates that the course is private.

    • Open Course: Opening the course make it accessible to students.
    • Hide Course: Hiding the course simply hides it from your list, not from other users/students enrolled in the course.

You can also click on the star to add the course to your favorites so it appears at the top of the list.

For more details, check the Blackboard help page: Find your courses.

Organizations replace the old “Community” tab. In this page, you will access any organizations/communities that you are enrolled in.

You can create Calendar events for your course. Assessment due dates and most course items with an associated date will appear here. Students Should not rely on the Blackboard Calendar for their assessment due dates and should always check the course itself. This Blackboard calendar is not linked to your Outlook calendar.

Course messages are private text-based communication that occurs among course members inside the course. Remember that messages display only within Blackboard, so members should access Blackboard in order to be able to read and send messages.

We encourage you to continue using the email and announcements tools to make sure your communication reaches your students outside Blackboard.

Make sure that you inform your students at the beginning of the term about the way that you will be using to communicate with them.

This page provides you with access to the Grade Centre for all your courses and gives you information about students’ submissions. Here are few things to know about this page:
    1. When you open the Grades page, the top banner will show the set of courses that you are looking at now such as “current courses” or “Spring 2024”. You can use the left and right arrows to move to other terms.
    2. The Percentage at the top right of the table represents the average of the “Total” column, which is set as the “External Grade”.
    3. Each Course will appear as a table. Each row in the table represents a column in the grade center or an assessment item. Here you get details of the assessment item including the number of submissions, number of items to grade, and number of missing submissions (This only appears after the deadline).
    4. You can click on the assessment title in the row to access the full grade center and work on it.
    5. “View all work” will display the rest of the assessment items.
