The Master of Education in Special Education (MSPED) is the only graduate program within the Department of Psychological Sciences of the College of Education at Qatar University. The MSPED Program prepares leaders in the field of Special Education for Qatar in two specialized areas: 1) Teaching Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities and 2) Teaching Students with Severe and Profound Disabilities. Graduates from the program are prepared to serve as leaders in a variety of settings in Qatar and beyond, including independent schools, special schools, hospital schools, government and private educational agencies, and international organizations. The MSPED Program is benchmarked to Qatar National Professional Standards for teachers and school leaders and guided by the standards of The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional association in special education. The program is comprehensive in that it covers all the basics of special education in addition to all categories mild, moderate and severe disabilities. The program offers two tracks, for the current time only the mild / moderate track is offered due to the high demand by the ministry of education and higher education and the number of applicants. The two tracks consist of 33 credit hours and provide a strong theoretical and professional background with all basics covered through the 9 courses offered, furthermore, research design and writing is stressed through the whole program to prepare graduates for any future positions in the field. The special education program consists of: * 27 hours as Major Requirement Courses * 6 hours of internship The internship part provides a field-based experience designed to develop program competencies with many requirements geared to reflect all program. The main instruction language is Arabic.

Graduates of the program will become educational leaders in the field, committed to strategic educational reform through continual improvement, and prepared to take the lead in transforming special education policy and practices in Qatar.

The mission of the Master of Education in Special Education program is to prepare Qatar’s leaders in special education who will improve the education provided to students with additional educational support needs in the country’s schools, support the country’s educational reform efforts, and advance Qatari society.
Objectives
Become leaders in Qatar’s schools, organizations, agencies, and other entities that serve students with additional educational support needs and their families.
Contribute to the development and use of educational practices that are research-based and culturally and technically appropriate for Qatar’s students with additional educational support needs and their families.
Develop and advance the skills of special educators and other professionals who serve students with additional educational support needs and their families in Qatar.
Contribute to the special education knowledge base for Qatar, the Arab world, and beyond.

Admissions & How to Apply
All applicants to the Master of Education in Special Education program must meet the admission requirement to Master programs as stipulated by the QU Admission Policy as well as the following requirements to be considered for admission to Qatar University
Completed a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.00 from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country.
Achieved a minimum score of 52 in TOEFL iBT or equivalent test taken within 2 years of the start of the intended semester of admission OR earned a previous degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a Program where English was the language of instruction.
A satisfactory performance in the personal interview.

How to Apply
For the graduate studies, Qatar University has adopted a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, gender or religion. Qatari and international students are admitted on a competitive basis according to individual merit, as determined by the university. Also, Qatar University ensures that all its facilities are accessible to special-needs students.
Applications for admission are normally accepted only for the Fall Semester, admission are not available for Spring Semester.
