    Finance Program

    Welcome to the Department of Finance and Economics at University of Qatar. I am glad to take this opportunity to introduce to you important information about the department. Lately, we went through many changes in terms of curriculum and department structure in the aim of enhancing the quality of teaching and research across disciplines and sub-disciplines and across theory and practice with particular emphases on local economy in the context of ethical and global framework.

    Major and Minor

    Any student in the College of Business and Economics can choose a major and a minor. The College offers six majors: Finance, Economics, Accounting, MIS, Management, and Marketing. Along with the chosen major, there are seven minors available for business students; Accounting, MIS, Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, and International Business.

    Career

    The Department offers two programs; Finance, Economics. Both of our programs provide high quality applied education that is relevant to Qatar and GCC. Our graduates from these disciplines could work as analysts, decision makers, designer of business models and as forecasters.

    Finance Major

    Finance majors earn the degree of Bachelor of Business and Economics with Finance major. They may select minors in Economics, Accounting, International Business, Management, MIS, or no minor. The requirements for Finance major include 21 credit hours of specific Finance courses. In addition to the Principles of Financial, students may take the following courses:

    • Corporate Finance;

    • Investment;

    • Portfolio Management;

    • Financial Markets & Institutions;

    • International Finance;

    • Personal Finance;

    • Insurance and Risk Management;

    • Islamic Banking & Finance;

    • Financial Derivatives.

    Economics Major

    Economics majors earn the degree of Bachelor of Business and Economics with Economics major. They may select minors in Finance, International Business, or no minor. The requirements for the Economics major include 21 credit hours of specific Economics courses. In addition to Introduction to Principles of Microeconomics and Principle of Macroeconomics, students may take the following courses:

    • Intermediate Macroeconomics;

    • Monetary Policy;

    • Econometrics;

    • International Economics;

    • Economic Development;

    • Industrial Economics;

    • Economics of Energy;

    • Managerial Economics

    Faculty

    Our faculty members are qualified, innovative, and dedicated to providing the most relevant education to our students. Their research activities are tailored to meeting the needs of practitioners (contribution to practice). Additionally, our faculty members publish in the instructional (learning and pedagogical) arena.

    Internship Program

    As a junior business student, you will participate in the College of Business and Economics internship program. The Internship in Business allows you the opportunity to spend a summer semester working with business professionals where you will earn three hours of credit plus a salary. As a result of the internship, you will gain practical experience and will make better career decisions. Employers perceive the internship experience very positive and you should capitalize on this advantage when looking for a permanent job.
